The New York City Police Museum

100 Old Slip (between Water St. & South St.).

Just a stone's throw from the East River, a solid neo-Renaissance building built in 1911 for the NYPD's First Precinct house was reopened in 2002 as the home of this museum. The collection, which the police department began to assemble in the 19C, is a trove of official police equipment and artifacts. On hand are vintage firearms, such as a Prohibition-era tommy
gun; and a full-size holding cell, complete with a metal bunkbed, basin and toilet. The Hall of Heroes (third floor) displays the shield of every New York police officer who died in the line of duty. Visitors 18 years of age and older can try out a firearms training simulator (third floor).

Open year-round Tue-Sat 10am-5pm, Sun 11am-5pm.
