Tribute

24 Broadway

Half-gallery, half-museum, Tribute occupies a 12,000sq ft loft space on the south end of the Standard Oil Building. Opened in 2004, it pays tribute (as it were) to the Big Apple with sprawling multimedia exhibits and Remember, a lavishly photographed, unabashedly sentimental film about New York pre-and post-9/11. (The film's producer, David Niles, is best
known in architectural circles for saving the 1927 Ed Sullivan Theater—now home to the Late Show with David Letterman—from demolition.) Past Tribute exhibits have included "New York in the 70s," featuring celebrity photographs by Allan Tannenbaum, and a group show of work by young and emerging New York artists. The only permanent piece is Last Call, by Jack Dowd, a full-size re-creation of a New York tavern at closing time.
